Tonopah Star Party’s theme is Moon Night at the Tonopah Stargazing Park starting at dusk on September 14 and October 12. The attendees will see the moon up close and can even connect their phones to the telescope to get a photo.   

There’s another theme at Tonopah Star Parties — Dark Sky Night on September 28 and October 26 when the dark sky nights allow attendees to see up to 7,000 stars, constellations, and even the Milky Way.

The park features concrete pads, benches and tables, plus telescopes, binoculars and iPads with stargazing apps will be provided.  Reservations are not required.

Attendees are welcome to bring their own equipment and should prepare for a cold evening (the elevation is 6,000 ft).

Directions: Turn off Highway 95 by the Beans and Brews 76 Gas Station onto Ray Tennant Drive. Continue straight until the pavement ends, then keep going straight on the dirt road ahead. You’ll see the park on your right side.

You can also venture farther up the mountain (make sure you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle) and find your own spot.
